To improve NBA 2K's simulation of basketball

MT has burst into an infestation over time, and it's a potent lure. Buying particular variations of NBA 2K19 grants bonus NBA 2K MT Coins, an appealing proposition considering that participant updates, new hairstyles, clothes and shoes need currency. Spending MT on shoes means less MT to update DJ, and less opportunity to maintain your own in pickup or Pro-Am modes against real-world contest.

The slog to earn currency without spending real money is inexcusable; sneakers run 1,500 MT and one player category update asks for 1,200 MT, but you only earn about 600 MT in the average game. The poking and prodding from MT-related pop-up offers when booting up a brand new 2K19 session irritates further. The microtransactions could be discounted, at least, when in business mode, one of those few components of NBA 2K19 where MT is not offered.

On the court, various tweaks continue to improve NBA 2K's simulation of basketball. Shots utilize a sharp new timing meter, and in NBA 2K19, the difference between open and contested shots is suitably important. Any guardian's hand in the area is likely to send a jumper off path.

At default settings, fresh AI tweaks enable the opposing offense to maintain possession organically, utilizing the shot clock to operate the ball around. Does this seem natural, however, the times of playing just six-minute quarters for realistic results have passed. I stuck to nine to 10 minutes per quarter to generate realistic scores at default settings, inching closer to the entire 12 minutes of a real game.

To further increase the sense of realism, NBA 2K19 is absolutely gorgeous in motion. Even excluding the stellar HDR service, tweaks to character models and textures bring out myriad smallish details. Beards seem better than anyplace else. Additionally, a new manufacturing package is set up this year, from pregame national anthems to hilarious pieces from the studio group of Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith. The group's character models require a do-over, but their interactions remain natural. Game commentary brings over some familiar lines (Kevin Harlan returns) yet has been advance with guest commentators (from Kobe Bryant into ’96 dunk contest champ Brent Barry).

Obviously, it's no surprise that NBA 2K19 looks good; the show has looked the role because its debut on the Dreamcast, remaining relevant visually and staking out its portion of basketball culture. NBA 2K19 continues the trend, capturing the feel of basketball's metropolitan centers from The Neighborhood.

It is too bad, then, that The Neighborhood is covered in advertisements and persistent microtransaction begging. The growing drive to invest real dollars on MT impacts those seeking to construct even the most fundamental of player avatars. It is too much in NBA 2K19, holding back nearly every style and customization option reddit game discuss. MT is an unavoidable truth. But on the court -- particularly in the superb franchise mode, free from the grasp of microtransactions -- NBA 2K19 lives up to its predecessors and occasionally even bests them.
